Our Mission
Invest in Girls teaches high school girls financial concepts, exposes them to professional women role models, and introduces them to financial services companies and career paths in finance to empower them to become tomorrow's leaders.
What We Do
Invest in Girls is a 3-year afterschool financial education program with three important components: financial workshops, one-to-one e-mentoring, and financial industry exposure trips. IIG has two overall goals: 1) to create a strong financial knowledge base for girls and 2) to spark girls' interest in financial service careers, populating the pipeline with girls where women continue to be underrepresented.
Our Model
GROUP FINANCIAL EDUCATION
IIG hosts four interactive financial education workshops each year at each school for a total of 12 workshops over the three years. Over the three years, girls learn the "B.I.G" concepts: Budgeting, Investing, and Giving. The workshops incorporate a financial simulations. Through our online portal, girls are able to access workshop materials 24/7. We believe in the power of experiential learning! Goal: Teach girls the important financial concepts they will need to be financially independent and successful.
ONE-TO-ONE E-MENTORING
IIG matches each girl with a compatible mentor working in the finance world. Mentors provide an introduction into finance careers and a deeper understanding of financial concepts. Mentors and girls call or Skype monthly to discuss future education plans, potential internships, and various professional development topics. Goal: Connect girls with a strong network of women working in financial services.
INDUSTRY EXPOSURE TRIPS
Each year, girls visit two companies in the finance world. Girls learn about a variety of career paths in the financial services world, meet and connect with successful industry leaders, and meet girls from other participating schools. Goal: Expose girls to new career paths in the financial services world.
